Southern Miss to Host Southeastern Lady Lions on Tuesday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Golden Eagles welcome the Southeastern Lady Lions to the Wellness Center on Tuesday night for a final tune up match before Conference USA play.
The Black and Gold last hosted their final tournament of the season, the Southern Miss Classic II on Sept. 17 and 18. The Golden Eagles defeated EKU, Lamar and Chattanooga, dropping only one set throughout the weekend to improve to 8-5.
Kinsley Hanback, Duquesne Moratzka and Mia Wesley were named all-tournament team honorees, with Hanback securing MVP honors for her efficient offensive play. She posted 29 kills on 50 total attempts over the weekend, highlighted by her performance against Chattanooga. She recorded 12 kills with a .500 hitting percentage, complemented by four blocks against the Mocs.
Southern Miss has been stellar in the Wellness Center up to this point, with a 7-0 record at home, the best start in Hattiesburg since 2009. The program's home record is the best in the C-USA and the Golden Eagles hold the third-best overall winning percentage (.615) in the conference.
The Golden Eagles take on Southeastern for the 59th time in program history and hold a 35-23 advantage over the Lady Lions in the all-time series. Southern Miss has only played one opponent more than the Lady Lions, Tulane, since the team's came to be in 1979.
Last season, SLU visited the Wellness Center for a pair of matchups on Jan. 29, 2021. The Lady Lions won the first match in four sets, while the Golden Eagles won the second in a five-set thriller. Duquesne Moratzka posted 18 kills and seven blocks in the last matchup between the programs.
This match was originally scheduled to take place in Hammond, La. However, due to damages sustained to the Southeastern Louisiana University campus, the Lady Lions will travel to Hattiesburg for the fourth consecutive season.
The Golden Eagles look to extend their winning streak to four for the second time this season. Southern Miss picked up four-straight victories to open the season and look to ride a wave of momentum heading into its first pair of conference matches this weekend at UAB.
