HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss high jumper Eric Richards will close one of the most prolific Golden Eagle track and field careers tomorrow at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Oregon at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
"Eric always brings his best to the NCAA Championships," head coach Jon Stuart said. "He doesn't get rattled by the hype and pageantry.
"Coach Barnes has done an excellent job of preparing him to be at his best for this weekend."
Richards put together his best performance of the season at the NCAA East Preliminaries a few weeks ago, as he was one of just eight high jumpers to clear the bar at 7'2.25" to secure his spot in Eugene.
Tomorrow marks the second career appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the Utica native. The three-time NCAA All-American will look to build upon his finish at the 2019 Outdoor Championships, where he set the school record with a leap of 7'4.5" to earn fifth place.
"Eric has meant so much to our team the past three years. I'm sad it's the last time he'll wear the Black and Gold, but excited to watch him compete one final time," Stuart concluded.
The high jump is scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. CT and can be watched live by clicking here.
