HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Golden Eagles of Southern Miss track and field are headed to a pair of Southeastern Conference schools this weekend as the majority of the team is set to compete on Friday and Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala. at the Crimson Tide Invite, while a pair of distance runners will head to the Joe Walker Invite hosted by Ole Miss.
"We're excited to have another chance to compete and get better this week," head coach Jon Stuart said. "We're going to see some competition from different conferences that we aren't necessarily use to seeing on a weekly basis. We're anxious to go and better our marks from the first two weeks of the season."
The Black and Gold will be joined by fourteen other schools in Tuscaloosa including: Alabama, Georgia Tech, Indiana State, Kennesaw State, Louisiana, LSU, Memphis, Mississippi State, Samford, South Alabama, Troy, Tulane, UAB and Central Arkansas.
The meet will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday with Alexis Morris and Isabella Simonelli taking part in the women's hammer throw.
Two-time Conference USA Freshman of the Meet Cassidy Teuscher, as well as Lina May, who ranks in the top-10 in program history in both the 3K and 10K, will compete in Oxford at the Joe Walker Invite on Friday.
"It's a great opportunity for these two," assistant coach Aaron Kindt said. "They're in excellent shape and have both had really good workouts over the last few weeks. The competition is going to be the best that we've seen all year. It's going to be paced out in a way to where we run well under our school record. Both of them are ready to work hard and fight until the end. I'm excited for them to get this experience and we're excited to see how they do."
Teuscher and May will face student-athletes from Kentucky, Lipscomb, Middle Tenn., New Orleans, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, South Dakota State, Stephen F. Austin and Tulsa.
The pair are scheduled to run at 8:55 p.m. on Friday.
