Merche Corbacho Claims Top-10 Finish at Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Freshman Merche Corbacho produced Southern Miss' best round in each of the three days, and she ultimately finished tied for 10th with a 10-over 226 at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate.
The Castellon, Spain, native produced the highest finish by a Golden Eagle since Valentina Haupt came in fourth at the 2019 C-USA Championships. This also marks the fourth time in six events she has been the team's leader.
Valeria Pichardo's tie for 29th marked the best ranking of her four-year career. Not to be overlooked, her 14-over 230 was one stroke off a career-low, also set in the same tournament before last year's COVID-19 shutdown.
Three other Golden Eagles (Friend Chompitakdacha, Emily Cox, Julie Baker) all tied for No. 55 with a 22-over 238, while Tenley Moretti had a 243.
Southern Miss now has a quick turnaround for Tucson, Arizona, where it will compete in the Mountain View Collegiate from Friday-Sunday.
