HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Golden Eagle volleyball team (8-5, 3-3 C-USA) is set for its third and fourth road contests of the season, taking on UTSA Sunday and Monday, both at 1 p.m. CT and airing on CUSA.tv.
Duquesne Moratzka is seventh in C-USA play with 3.71 kills per set and has been in double-figures for all but two matches dating back to the fall.
Nyanuer Bidit was on fire over last weekend's split with UAB, compiling 20 kills for a .245 hitting percentage. Monday's win saw her hit .647 with a dozen kills, the highest by a Golden Eagle in C-USA play since Alexis Coombs at Marshall on Oct. 26, 2018. She also assisted on four blocks.
Kenzie Smith has also continued to emerge at the setter spot, including helping Southern Miss to a .393 hitting percentage in Sunday's third-set victory over UAB (team hit .194 and .105 in the first two). She also helped Bidit to her explosive Monday outing, as well as Gillian Hidalgo to record 13 kills over the weekend after having five for the year. Addie Ashton also earned a starting nod on Monday, her first since the fall, collecting four kills and two blocks.
UTSA (5-9, 3-5) most recently swept LA Tech and got swept by Rice, the only mutual opponents between the teams. Southern Miss fell in five sets at home to the Roadrunners in the 2019 meeting, where then-freshman Liana Guillemaud's 13 kills matched her most in league play.
