3/14/2021 3:49:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
SAN ANTONIOÂ -- UTSA took large leads in the first two sets, and despite a set-three victory, the Roadrunners were too much for Southern Miss in a 3-1 victory Sunday (14-25, 16-25, 25-21, 22-25).
The Roadrunners led 11-3 and 11-5 in those first two sets, and Southern Miss returned the favor in the third, going up 7-2 and later 13-7 via a 4-0 run. The fourth was the most-contested one, with the Golden Eagles remaining within 18-17 one of Addie Ashton's two kills. Back-to-back blocks by Duquesne Moratzka and Nyanuer Bidit forced UTSA into a timeout with a 23-22 lead, but two kills shut the door.
Kenzie Smith not only had a career-high six kills but did so with no errors on 10 attacks. Bidit's 11 total blocks (one solo, 10 assisted) more than doubled her career-high. It marked a Southern Miss season-high and gives her 50 on the season.
The Roadrunners (6-9, 4-5 C-USA) hit .234 and .458 to start but were limited to .081 and .195 to close it out. Moratzka led the way with 11 kills, while Kinsley Hanback contributed 10 on just 20 attacks.
Southern Miss fell to 8-6 and 3-4 in C-USA. The two teams will rematch at 12 p.m. Monday.
