HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team is set for its closest tournament of the season, the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans, Sunday through Tuesday.
The action will be held at the English Turn Golf and Country Club, a par-72, 6,280-yard course south of the city.
Participating teams include Central Arkansas, Chattanooga, ULM, Loyola (N.O.), McNeese State, Nebraska, Rutgers, Seton Hall, SMU, Texas State, Tulane (host) and Wisconsin.
The Golden Eagles competed in this tournament last February, its final event before the COVID-19 shutdown. The squad finished 11th out of 15, which featured 36 holes on a Monday due to heavy rain for Sunday's opener.
This year's field features Friend Chompitakdacha, Merche Corbacho, Tenley Moretti, Emily Cox and Valeria Pichardo representing the Black and Gold, while Julie Baker will compete as an individual.
Chompitakdacha was the top finisher in last year's event, tying for 26th with a 6-over 222. Pichardo, Moretti and Baker were also there.
This is Southern Miss' first action in three weeks, last competing in the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational in Georgia that concluded Feb. 21. Chompitakdacha earned her second-career, top-20 finish with a 12-over 228. She returned to the fray this spring and has a 75.17 stroke average, while Merche Corbacho is at 75.93 over five events dating back to the fall.
