HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team is set for its first spring event, and fourth of the season, Monday and Tuesday at the FAU Paradise Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla.
Live scoring is available through GolfStat.com. Competition will be held at the par-72, 6,076-yard Boca Lago Country Club. The action starts at 6:30 a.m. CT each day, including 36 holes to start. The field includes Arkansas State, FAU (host), Loyola Chicago, Maryland, Michigan State, North Florida, Ohio State, Seton Hall, South Florida, UAB, No. 19 Vanderbilt and Xavier.
Friend Chompitakdacha will make her season debut, and she is joined by Valeria Pichardo, Julie Baker, Merche Corbacho and Emily Cox.
Chompitakdacha was the team's top performer each of the last two seasons, including a 74.61 stroke average in six tournaments last year before the COVID-19 shutdown that helped her earn Third-Team All-Conference honors.Â
Corbacho, a freshman from Spain, exploded onto the scene to start her collegiate career with a team-low 75.00 average through the team's three fall tournaments. Her best showing was her debut, a 4-over 220 and tie for sixth-place at the Lady Red Wolves Classic. Baker and Pichardo are seniors looking to close out strong, followed by redshirt-junior Emily Cox.
As a team, three of Southern Miss' four lowest rounds during the fall came in the final rounds. One of the team's three events came at The Ally in West Point, Miss., where it was the only non-SEC representative.
