HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team is hoping for warmer weather and three days of success when it competes in the Lake Oconee Invitational in Greensboro, Ga., Friday-Sunday.
Participating teams at the par-72, 6,031-yard Great Waters at Reynolds Lake Oconee course are Chattanooga, Daytona State, East Tennessee State, James Madison, Kennesaw State, Mercer (host), Middle Tennessee, No. 32 North Florida, Old Dominion, Rutgers, South Dakota State, Tulane, UNC Wilmington and Wisconsin. Live scoring is available through Golfstat.com
The Golden Eagles will send out Julie Baker, Friend Chompitakdacha, Valeria Pichardo, Merche Corbacho and Tenley Moretti to the Peach State. This marks the team's second trip to a Mercer tournament, also playing at the Brickyard Golf Club in November.
The rookie Corbacho has been the team's top performer this year, boasting a 75.01 stroke average, while last year's ace, Friend Chompitakdacha, made her season debut last weekend and carded a 7-over 223 at the FAU Paradise Invitational, including a 73 in the first. Moretti is also making her fourth appearance and first of the spring.
Southern Miss matched its season-low at that event in Boca Raton, and included in that was Baker's season-best 74 to close it out.
