MACON, Ga. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team wrapped up its fall schedule with a fifth-place finish at the Mercer Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The low Golden Eagle on the day came from freshman Momoka Ando, who fired a one-over par 73. Three golfers finished tied for 26th.
"While this was not an ideal score to finish the fall, I'm very proud of the fight and the growth we've experienced this entire semester," said Southern Miss head coach Lucy Nunn Burke. "We've got some areas to address this offseason, but we are already looking to what lies ahead this spring."
The three low Golden Eagles for the tournament were Elena Melich, Merche Corbacho, and Ando. Melich fired a third-round 76 and Corbacho carded a six-over par 78. Junior Friend Chompitakdacha finished tied for 31st after firing a 230 over the two days and senior Tenley Moretti finished in 47th after shooting an 83 today. Freshman Jacee Fields, competing as an individual, finished tied for 56th after firing a three-over par 75 today. The 75 was her low round for the tournament and second lowest of her career.
The Golden Eagles head back to Hattiesburg with three-month offseason ahead of them. Southern Miss returns to action in mid-February at the Tulane Invitational at English Turn Golf & Country Club.
