
Women's Tennis Continues Homestand Against Delta State on Saturday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â After a 10-day break, the Southern Miss Women's Tennis team returns to the court on Saturday as they host Delta State at 11 a.m. Admission at the Southern Miss Tennis Facility is free.Â
In its last outing, Southern Miss cruised to a 6-1 win over West Alabama in Hattiesburg. Junior Katia de la Garza, who was battling her former team, extended her unbeaten start to three after winning in three sets on court one. Tanit Lopez and Monique Burton moved their unbeaten mark to three as well with wins on court five and six, respectively. De la Garza and freshman Warisara Lee opened doubles play with a win while Lopez and sophomore Ebru Zeynep Yazgan weren't far behind with a 6-1 win. Freshman Sarah Medik recorded her second consecutive win for the Golden Eagles on court two.Â
For just the third time since 2010, the women's tennis program has jumped to a 3-0 start. It's the second time under Steve Schram in which the Golden Eagles have jumped to an undefeated start through their first three matches.Â
Scouting Delta State
The Fighting Okra will play the Golden Eagles a day after playing Jones County Junior College in their season opener. Last season, Delta State posted a 6-17 mark while going 3-8 in Gulf South Conference play. Saturday's meeting will be the first since 1989 between the Fighting Okra and Golden Eagles.Â
