Golden Eagles Open Homestand With 4-0 Win Against Jackson State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss Women's Tennis team opened its lengthy homestand with a 4-0 shutout of Jackson State on Friday afternoon. The Golden Eagles won their eighth doubles point of the season while extending their doubles record to 18-1.
Warisara Lee and Katia de la Garza moved to a team-best 6-0 at doubles after knocking off Sofia Beggiatto and Robin Alston on court two, 6-2. Arina Amaning and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Noelle Frenzal and Lucia Placidi on court three. Sarah Medik and Monique Burton were leading on court one but went unfinished.
De la Garza notched her seventh win of the season as the junior cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win against Sherine Salem. Yazgan was able to make quick work of Beggiatto on court four, winning 6-3, 6-1. The win was her sixth of the season, moving her to 6-0. Tanit Lopez secured the 4-0 win for Southern Miss after dropping one game on court six. The junior turned in an impressive 6-1, 6-0 win against Placidi. The dominant performance moves Lopez to 5-0 on the season. Amaning, Medik, and Lee all went unfinished.
The Golden Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they face Alcorn State on Saturday at 10 a.m. Admission to the Southern Miss Tennis Complex is free.
