HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss Women's Tennis team will begin a stretch of three matches in three days on Saturday when it welcomes Jackson State (6-6, 1-1 SWAC), Alcorn State (1-11, 0-0 SWAC), and Troy (4-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) to the Southern Miss Tennis Complex. Admission to all matches is free.Â
Weekend Schedule
Friday vs. Jackson State - 2 p.m.
Saturday vs. Alcorn State - 10 a.m.
Sunday vs. Troy - 10 a.m.
"Even though we are hosting three teams in three days, we are focusing on one match at a time -- first with Jackson State," head coach Steve Schram said. "We are expecting a good match with Jackson State as they are coming off a good win against Nicholls State. Â
"So far, we have been able to win the doubles point in all of our matches this season, and our goal is to continue to set the tone from the first point in doubles. We are expecting all three teams to be playing at a high level so we need to be ready to go out compete them."
The Golden Eagles are coming off their first C-USA win in nearly two years after defeating UTSA in Natchitoches, La. last Saturday. The 4-1 win was the sixth of the season for Southern Miss and the sixth for sophomore Katia de la Garza. In 17 doubles matches, the Golden Eagles have dropped one contest en route to grabbing all seven doubles points thus far. Against the Roadrunners, De la Garza and Warisara Lee won on court two while Arina Amaning and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan cruised to a victory on court three.Â
Sarah Medik and Yazgan added singles wins for the Golden Eagles. Those wins pushed their records to 5-0 while Tanit Lopez is riding a 4-0 start to open her junior campaign. Sophomore Monique Burton is 4-1 after sitting out the Golden Eagles' contest against the Roadrunners.Â

The Opponents
Jackson State sits 6-6 with wins in three of its last four matches. SWAC foe Alabama State got the best of the Tigers in their last outing, winning 4-3 in Jackson. Prior to that, Jackson State grabbed wins over Delta State, Nicholls, and Grambling State. Dating back to 2010, Southern Miss owns a 10-0 record against Jackson State, including two wins last season.Â
The Lady Braves are 1-11 with a win over Mississippi Valley State. In its last outing, Alcorn State fell 4-0 to Alabama A&M and Southern during the SWAC Round-Up. Historically, Southern Miss is 11-0 against the Mississippi foe, shutting them out in the last eight meetings. In what might be their toughest contest yet, the Golden Eagles welcome a 4-2 Troy team to Hattiesburg for the first time since 2009. Southern Miss won 6-1 last season in Troy, but fell in the three previous contests dating back to 2006.Â
