Eagles Complete Sweep with 8-7 Sunday win over Murray State

The Golden Eagles opened up 3-0 for the sixth-straight season as they collected season highs for both runs and hits (12).
Fischer, the sophomore from Edina, Minn., posted two doubles and drove in three runs and had the program's first four-hit game since Matt Wallner did it against Marshall on May 23, 2019.
The Golden Eagles overcame three deficits in the contest before taking the lead for good with three runs in the seventh at 8-6.
Freshman Isaiah Rhodes from McKinney, Texas, allowed a run on a solo homer to start the ninth to pinch hitter Brock Anderson as MSU closed the gap to 8-7, but got the next three batters. Rhodes fanned two over those final three frames, earning the victory in the process.
Southern Miss trailed for the final time 6-4 in the seventh when they rallied for their last lead. Brant Blaylock and Danny Lynch opened the frame with consecutive walks. A wild pitch allowed Blaylock to third, before Fischer knocked him in with a single. Dustin Dickerson later knocked in run after being hit by a pitch to tie the game.
Gabe Montenegro, who exited the game Saturday after being hit by a pitch on his left hand, who returned to the lineup in this contest and collected two hits earlier in the game, drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to score Fischer.
Fischer, who doubled in a run in the third, plated the Golden Eagles final run in the eighth with a ground-rule double.
Ryan Perkins led the Racers (0-3) with two hits and two RBI, while reliever Jake Jones (0-1) suffered the loss by giving up three runs on three hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles continue their season-opening seven-game homestand Tuesday, Feb. 18, when they entertain New Orleans for a 6 p.m., contest.
