HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- Southern Miss' third and final fall women's golf tournament will be held at the Mercer Invitational in Macon, Ga., a two-day event that begins Monday.
Action from the Brickyard Golf Course (par-72, 6,218 yards) begins with 36 holes and an 8 a.m. shotgun start, followed by the final 18 on Tuesday. Live scoring is available through Golfstat.com.
Participating teams include BYU, Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Mercer, Troy, WKU and Western Carolina. ETSU enters as the highest-ranked team at No. 23, having won a tournament at Wofford in its only action.Â
The Golden Eagles check in at No. 43 in the Golfweek rankings. Merche Corbacho, Valeria Pichardo, Tenley Moretti, Emily Cox and Julie Baker make up the team's lineup this week. Southern Miss' last tournament was The Ally in West Point, Miss., where 13 of its 14 opponents sit in the current top-18 nationally.
Corbacho enters with the lowest stroke average on the team at 74.83. The freshman also boasts the squad's best score of the young season, a 4-over 220 at the Lady Red Wolves Classic in her debut, tying for 16th.
This will be the third time that Baker and Cox have competed on this course. Baker had a five-stroke improvement from her first to second time. The Golden Eagles, who were runner-ups in November 2016 at the then-Idle Hour Collegiate, finished 12th out of 16 at least year's event. Friend Chompitakdacha finished in a tie for No. 21, while Pichardo came in at 42.
