MACON, Ga. -- Freshman Merche Corbacho finished tied for 16th, matching the best finish of her career, and Southern Miss Women's Golf finished eighth at the Mercer Invitational for the team's third and final fall event.
Corbacho also finished No. 16 in her debut, the Lady Red Wolves Classic, and her 72 in Tuesday's final round marked her second time with a par-or-better round.
"I was really proud of our fight today; as a group we got better each round, and Merche especially," head coach Lucy Burke said. "She made the necessary adjustments from our 36-hole day and capped off a great first semester. The offseason will be a bit longer for us this year, but that gives us plenty of time to get ready for the spring."
Julie Baker's 16-over 232 put her in the No. 29 spot, her highest finish since the Magnolia Invitational (sixth) in October 2018. She also had the lowest score of the entire field for par-fives. Each of the five Golden Eagles this weekend improved or remained consistent from the second-to-third rounds. Tenley Moretti's 76 was two strokes off a career-low.
Mercer rallied to defend its home with a 286 in the final round, the lowest of any team on the week, to claim the team title.
Southern Miss' spring slate will be unveiled when it comes available.
