Women’s Soccer Edged Out by ULM, 1-0 on Sunday Afternoon

The Golden Eagles will now prepare for their home opener against the South Alabama Jaguars on Thursday, September 5.
MONROE, La. – The Southern Miss women's soccer team (1-3-0) was edged out by ULM, 1-0 (1-2-1) on Sunday afternoon at Brown Stadium in Monroe, La.
The first half of the match looked as if it would end with both teams being held scoreless, but a goal by ULM's Khyjian Thomas gave the Warhawks a 1-0 lead with 3:34 remaining until halftime. Bailey Botkin was credited with the assist on Thomas' goal.
As the match went on, Thomas' goal scored in the 42nd minute of play proved to be enough to lead the Warhawks to a 1-0 victory.
Southern Miss outshot ULM, 18-7 in the contest. The Golden Eagles totaled eight shots in the first half and 10 in the second half.
Southern Miss junior goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich and redshirt sophomore Sarah Preston collected five saves in the match to help limit the damage done by ULM. Mindnich tallied a total of three saves while Preston registered two.
Preston logged a total of 21:28 of playing time in what was her first appearance in the net of the 2019 regular season.
With its six-match road stint now complete, Southern Miss will return to Hattiesburg to host its first home match of the 2019 season. The Golden Eagles will take on the South Alabama Jaguars (2-0-1) on Thursday, September 5 at 5:00 p.m. (CT) at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
