
Women’s Soccer Takes Down Lamar, 2-1 on Thursday Afternoon in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Southern Miss women's soccer team (1-2) defeated Lamar (1-2) by a final score of 2-1 on Thursday afternoon at the LU Soccer Complex. The win marked the first of the 2019 regular season for the Golden Eagles.
Junior midfielder JoAnnie Ramos gave Southern Miss the early advantage after scoring a goal at the 14:25 mark in the match. The goal marked the first of the 2019 season for the Katy, Texas native.
The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 courtesy of a goal by redshirt junior forward Alice Campos that came at the 33:12 mark in the match. Redshirt sophomore forward Mackenzie Hamilton was credited with the assist on Campos' goal. For Hamilton, the assist was her first of the 2019 season.
Lamar's Lucy Ashworth made things interesting late in the match when she netted a goal to bring the Cardinals within one at the 82:04 mark.
After a weather delay that occurred during the final minutes, the match was called final, sealing a 2-1 victory for the Golden Eagles.
Although Lamar outshot Southern Miss, 17-12 in the match, it was once again the goalkeeping of Kendell Mindnich that proved to be a difference maker for the Golden Eagles. Mindnich registered a total of seven saves in the contest, tying her career-high for saves in a match.

Southern Miss will conclude its six-match road stint when they face Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday, September 1 at 1:00 p.m. (CT). The match will be played at the ULM Soccer Complex in Monroe, La.
