Women’s Soccer Travels to Beaumont for Thursday Afternoon Battle Against Lamar

The Golden Eagles and the Cardinals will kick-off at 1:00 p.m. (CT) at the LU Soccer Complex.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's soccer team (0-2) will travel to Beaumont, Texas for a 1:00 p.m. (CT) match against Southland Conference opponent Lamar (1-1) that will be played at the LU Soccer Complex on Thursday, August 29.
The last time out
The last time that Southern Miss took the pitch, they were edged out by Southeast Missouri State, 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Redshirt junior Alice Campos put the Golden Eagles on top, 1-0 in the 38th minute of play after finding the back of the net on a free kick from approximately 20 yards out.
Southeast Missouri State tied the match, 1-1 after Morgan McCourt netted an equalizing goal in the 44th minute of play on a penalty kick.
The Redhawks took their first lead of the match in the 64th minute of play via a goal from Megan Heisserer.
In the 74th minute of play, Southern Miss evened things up, 2-2 courtesy of a converted penalty kick by redshirt junior forward Hailey Pohevitz.

Lamar is led by third-year Head Coach Steve Holeman. In his first season as the head coach of the Lamar women's soccer program in 2017, Holeman led the Cardinals to unprecedented heights by helping them capture their first Southland Conference regular season title and Southland Conference tournament title. In addition, the Cardinals made their first NCAA Tournament appearance.
Last week, Lamar hosted the Cardinal Classic and posted a record of 1-1 in the tournament. Lamar dropped its first match of the tournament to Oklahoma State, 3-0 and defeated Louisiana-Lafayette, 5-1 in its second match.
