Southern Miss Women’s Soccer Falls to Missouri, 1-0 in Hard-Fought Opening Night Battle

The Golden Eagles will return to action on Sunday, August 25 against Southeast Missouri State.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Southern Miss women's soccer team fell to Missouri by a final score of 1-0 on Thursday night in Columbia, Mo. Thursday night's match marked the first of the 2019 regular season for both teams.
Missouri jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when sophomore forward Julissa Cisneros scored on a chip shot in the second minute of the match. Senior forward Sarah Luebbert was credited with the assist. Cisneros' goal would later prove to be the only goal of the match for either team.
Missouri finished the match with a 12-6 shot advantage over Southern Miss and a 7-4 corner kicks advantage.
Despite the loss, Southern Miss' defense showed grit and toughness throughout the match, limiting a physical Missouri team to just one goal.
The Golden Eagles also received stellar play from junior goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich, who finished the match with a total of five saves to her name.
Creating moments of quality play and finding rhythm as a unit are positive building blocks that the Golden Eagles can take away from Thursday night's match going forward.
Southern Miss will now regroup and focus on its next opponent, Southeast Missouri State. Southern Miss will take on Southeast Missouri State on Sunday, August 25 at 2:00 p.m. (CT) at Houck Field in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Sunday's match will be the first of the regular season for Southeast Missouri State.
