Southern Miss Women’s Soccer Set to Open 2019 Regular Season Against Missouri on Thursday Night

The Golden Eagles and the Tigers are scheduled to kick-off at 7:00 p.m. (CT) at the Audrey J. Walton Soccer Stadium in Columbia, Mo.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's soccer team will kick off its 2019 regular season against SEC foe Missouri on Thursday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m. (CT) at the Audrey J. Walton Soccer Stadium in Columbia, Mo.
The last time out
In its last match, Southern Miss defeated its in-state rival Mississippi State by a final score of 1-0 on Saturday, August 17 at the MSU Soccer Field in Starkville, Miss.
Southern Miss sophomore midfielder Olivia Durham netted the lone goal of Saturday's match. Durham put the Golden Eagles on top, 1-0 after finishing off a shot by redshirt junior forward Hailey Pohevitz with just under 30 minutes remaining in the match. Pohevitz was credited with the assist.
In addition to Durham's goal, Southern Miss benefited tremendously from the play of its defense and the goalkeeping of junior Kendell Mindnich and redshirt sophomore Sarah Preston. Mindnich and Preston both registered key saves in the contest to keep Mississippi State off of the scoreboard.

Under the direction of Blitz, Missouri is 214-176-26 and has appeared in the NCAA tournament seven times. Blitz was hired in 1996 and he is the only head coach that the program has ever had.
During the 2019 preseason, the Tigers posted a 1-1 record. Missouri fell to #3 Stanford, 7-0 on Sunday, August 11 in Stanford, Calif. and defeated Colorado State, 3-1 on Wednesday, August 14 in Fort Collins, Colo.

- Durham's second half goal in Saturday's match marked the second game-winning goal of her Southern Miss career. The Marietta, Ga. native collected her first-game winning goal as a freshman in 2018 when she led Southern Miss to a 1-0 victory over Charlotte, who at the time, was ranked #1 in C-USA.
- Redshirt junior forward Hailey Pohevitz recorded the first assist of her Southern Miss career on Saturday. Pohevitz was credited with the assist on Durham's goal.
