Women's Tennis Drops Hard-Fought Battle at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Hitting the road for just its second Conference USA match of the season, the Southern Miss (12-4, 0-2 CUSA) women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker to UAB, 4-3.
The Golden Eagles started doubles with a win by Tjasa Jerse and Arina Amaning, who cruised to a 6-1 win at the top pairing. Rikeetha Pereira and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan earned the doubles point for the Golden Eagles after beating Dominika Hrabalova and Megan Bertrands, 6-4.
The Golden Eagles quickly found themselves with a three-point lead after UAB had to forfeit at the fifth and sixth singles position. Amaning fell at the top singles spot in straight sets. Pereira followed with a loss at the second position and then the Blazers tied the match at three after a win by Bertrands over Katie de la Garza. Hrabalova secured the win for UAB by defeating Jerse in straight sets. Pereira dropped the first set in a tiebreaker before losing the final set by a 6-4 score.
The Golden Eagles will host William Carey on Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. Senior Day festivities will start at 2:45 p.m.
