
Women's Tennis Heads to UAB

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -Â The Southern Miss (12-3, 0-1 C-USA) women's tennis team resumes Conference USA play on Saturday as they travel to UAB (5-13, 1-2 C-USA). After rain washed out Thursday's contest against Southern, the Golden Eagles will play their first match since being shutout at Tulane last Saturday.Â
Katia de la Garza leads the Golden Eagles with 10 wins in her sophomore campaign. Seniors Rikeetha Pereira and Tjasa Jerse have both put up an impressive 9-3 record in their final season wearing the black and gold. Freshman Ebru Zeynep Yazgan, in her inaugural campaign, has battled to an 8-2 record while splitting time on courts four, five, and six.Â
Scouting UAB
UAB boasts a 5-13 record to go along with a 1-2 C-USA record. The Golden Eagles have taken the last two contests against the Blazers, but trail 15-5 in the all-time series. Marlene Herrmann has paced the Blazers at No. 1 singles with a 5-9 record and Alex Shchipakina has posted an 8-4 record at No. 2 singles. UAB is currently on a four-game losing streak, which two of those losses came from C-USA opponents.Â
The Golden Eagles will host William Carey on Monday for Senior Day. Festivities will start at 2:45 p.m.
