HATTIESBURG, Miss. -Â The Southern Miss (8-17, 0-8 CCSA) beach volleyball team will host Spring Hill (12-6) for a doubleheader on Saturday morning at the Southern Miss Beach Courts. The Golden Eagles and Badgers will get underway at 11 a.m.Â
The Saturday contest marks the first match at home for the Golden Eagles since they hosted Tulane on March 5. That match marked the first-ever Division I beach volleyball match hosted by a university in the state of Mississippi. The Green Wave took both matches of the doubleheader.Â
Southern Miss is coming off of a bye week, but last played at The Tiger Beach Challenge two weekends ago. The Golden Eagles fell to No. 4 LSU, 4-1, but were able to walk away with a win over Spring Hill. The win against the Badgers was the first in four tries. The Badgers took care of the Golden Eagles in the first three meetings, but the second meeting was decided by one point. Southern Miss dropped the other two by a 4-1 score, but multiple pairings went into overtime.Â
Spring Hill heads to Hattiesburg riding a four-game losing streak that started at The Tiger Beach Challenge. The Badgers dropped Friday matches to North Florida and Georgia State by a combined score of 9-1. Spring Hill was unable to rebound on Saturday, ultimately losing to the Golden Eagles and Tulane.Â
At the top pairing, Kylie Grandy and Lindsey Legg have split the four meeting against Payton Gidney and Kassandra Fairly. At LSU, Grandy and Legg won in a three-set battle that secured the win for Southern Miss. Prior to the weekend at LSU, the Golden Eagles had won five of their last seven matches.Â
Of the 58 Division I beach volleyball programs, the Golden Eagles are one of eight teams to win at least eight games in their inaugural season. With at least four games remaining, Southern Miss still has time to shorten the list.Â
The Southern Miss Beach Courts are located on the north side of the Payne Center. Admission is free.Â
