HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team extended its win streak to five games with a 5-0 win over Prairie View A&M. Due to a late start, the Golden Eagles (12-2, 0-1 CUSA) opted to start with singles play and wasted no time in getting out to an early lead over the Panthers.
On a sunny day at the Southern Miss Tennis Facility, Ebru Zeynep Yazgan jumped to an early lead over Jessica Lackey. The freshman dropped just one game in the first set before erupting for a 6-0 shutout in the second set to secure the win on court four. Fellow freshman Monique Burton wrapped up a dominating performance with a 6-4 win in the second set. The Australia native, who has no blemish on her record, now has four wins.
Senior Rikeetha Pereira cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win on court two, which gave her win number nine on the season. Tjasa Jerse, another Golden Eagle senior, recorded her 67th Southern Miss win over Jimena Castellanos. She won the first set 6-3, then followed with a 6-0 shutout to secure the win. Arina Amaning was the final Southern Miss player to record a win on the day. The sophomore had an easy 6-1 win in the first set but battled to a 7-5 win in the second set to close things out.
