
Golden Eagles Host Prairie View A&M, Then Travel to Tulane

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - In the midst of a four-game win streak, the Southern Miss women's tennis will host Prairie View A&M (3-15) on Friday afternoon at the Southern Miss Tennis Facility. The Golden Eagles (11-2, 0-1 CUSA) will then travel to Tulane (6-12, 0-5 AAC) on Saturday.Â
In coach Steve Schram's first season at the helm of the Golden Eagles, his squad is inching closer to the best start in program history. The historic start has been backed by sophomore Katia de la Garza's 10-1 record. Senior Tjasa Jerse is up to 66 wins in her Southern Miss career, good for fifth all-time.Â
Last time out
The Golden Eagles cruised to a 4-0 sweep at Jackson State last Sunday. Arina Amaning/Jerse and De la Garza/Monique Burton each posted wins to secure the doubles point. It marked another doubles win for the Golden Eagles, who have only dropped the doubles point one time this season. Jerse, De la Garza, and Burton recorded wins in singles play. De la Garza and Jerse extended their win streaks to four, while Burton's was extended to three.Â
Scouting Prairie View A&M and Tulane
The Panthers head to Hattiesburg sporting a 3-15 record and are riding a five-game losing streak. Prior to Friday's match, PVAMUÂ takes on Jackson State in the morning.Â
The Green Wave are off to a 6-12 start and are coming off of a 5-2 win against Marshall last Saturday. Tulane is paced by Ivone Alvaro, who has a 4-1 record at the third singles position. Laura Fabrizi and Elena Muller have split time at the top singles spot, posting a combined record of 3-13. Alvaro and Muller have a 14-1 record at the top doubles spot, which ranks them No. 33 in the ITA Doubles Poll.Â
Friday's contest is slated to start at 4 p.m. Saturday's match is slated to start at 1 p.m. in New Orleans, La.Â
