Women's Tennis Sweeps Jackson State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Golden Eagles (11-2, 0-1 CUSA) extended their winning streak to four matches after defeating Jackson State for the second time this season. In Jackson, Miss., Southern Miss won the doubles point en route to a 4-0 win over the Tigers.
Katia de la Garza and Monique Burton got things rolling at the third doubles pairing by cruising to a 6-1 win over Ariel Dickson and Nina Zhang. Back in January, Tanit Lopez and De la Garza went unfinished against that same pair. Jackson State was able to make the doubles point interesting at the No. 2 pairing. Rikeetha Pereira and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan fell behind early to Lucia Solis and Lily Zhang, ultimately losing by a 6-1 score. The Golden Eagles were able to secure the doubles point after Arina Amaning and Tjasa Jerse cruised to a 6-2 win at the top spot.
De la Garza extended the lead to two after besting Lucia Placidi at the No. 4 singles position. The sophomore won 6-0, 6-2. Jerse continued to climb the Southern Miss all-time win ranks with a win at the No. 2 singles position. The senior knocked off Oni Jones by a 6-2, 6-1 score. Freshman Monique Burton secured the Southern Miss win by beating Dickson at the No. 6 singles position. The Australian won by a 6-0, 6-1 score.
Amaning, Pereira, and Yazgan all went unfinished. The win moves the Golden Eagles' record to 6-2 on the road. They will play host to Prairie View A&M on Friday at 3 p.m.
