Beach Volleyball Splits at Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Golden Eagles (5-12, 0-5 CCSA) continued their winning ways in the first session against Austin Peay (1-5), winning 4-1. The Governors responded in dramatic fashion en route to a 3-2 win in the second session in Clarksville, Tenn.Â
The split moved the Golden Eagles to 5-12 on the season. In total, the Golden Eagles had three pairs end the day with win streaks still intact.Â
Match 1Â
Jessica Austin and Madison Lawler stayed hot on court five, notching their fourth win in a row. The duo swept MiMi Arrington and Karli Graham, 21-13, 21-15. Olivia Hepworth and Breleigh Favre also extended their win streak to four games with a two-set win at court four. They allowed just eight points in the final set. The Governors were able steal a point back with a three-set win over Cyan Blackdeer and Kellie Garraway at the No. 3 pairing.Â
Still in the new pairing, Abbey Wilson and Piper Matsumoto found yet another win. The two bested Jenna Panning and Haley Turner, 25-23, 21-13. At the No. 1 pairing, Kylie Grandy and Lindsey Legg extended their win streak with a win in straight sets, 21-18, 21-14. Lindsey Smith and Kinsley Hanback teamed up for the first time this season and won in three sets in the exhibition match.Â
Match 2
The Governors got out to a quick start at the No. 5 pairing against Austin and Lawler, winning 19-21, 21-17, 15-11. Favre and Hepworth answered with a two-set win that extended their winning streak to five games. Austin Peay added their second win of the day at the No. 3 pairing to force some pressure on the Golden Eagles. Grandy and Legg answered with a two-set smashing against Ginny Gerig and Ciera Koons.Â
All the marbles came down to Jenna Panning and Brooke Morse against Wilson and Matsumoto at the No. 2 pairing. Austin Peay won the first set by two points, which the Golden Eagles followed with a 21-17 win in the second set. The third set was at 11-10 before the Governors went on a run to secure their first win of the season. Hanback and Smith had a comeback win in the exhibition match after dropping the first set by seven points.Â
The Golden Eagles will remain at Austin Peay for the The Governors Challenge this weekend. They will collide with Central Arkansas and Missouri Baptist on Friday. Times are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
