Tennessee Spring Break Trip Awaits Golden Eagles

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss beach volleyball team heads to Tennessee for a packed spring break. The Golden Eagles will open with a historic match against Tennessee-Martin before heading to Austin Peay on Thursday. They will stay at Austin Peay for The Governors Challenge against Missouri Baptist, Central Arkansas and Tusculum.Â

The Skyhawks, who are hosting the Golden Eagles for their first-ever home match, sit at 3-9 on the season. They have two wins over Eckerd and one over Jacksonville. Coastal Carolina is the lone opponent both teams have faced this season, which the Chanticleers came out victorious againat both. Brooke Gyori and Hannah Phillips are the No. 1 pairing for the Skyhawks and have a 2-9 record. In St. Petersburg, Fla. last weekend, the Skyhawks went 1-3 against Eckerd, Arizona State, Florida Gulf Coast and Tampa.Â

The Governors, who have four consecutive losses, are in search of their first win when they host the Golden Eagles on Thursday afternoon in Clarksville, Tenn. Austin Peay is four days removed from dropping games to Spring Hill, Georgia State, New Orleans, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at The March to May. Jenna Panning and Haley Turner won at the No. 3 pairing for the Governors against Tampa, and Ciera Koons and Brooke Moore won at the No. 4 pairing against Spring Hill. Those are the lone wins for them this season.Â

Following a weekend trip to Texas, Missouri Baptist heads to Clarksville with an 0-5 record. The Spartans have dropped all five games by a 5-0 score. Friday's action at The Governors Challenge will mark the first games of the season for Central Arkansas. The Bears are a season removed from posting a 15-9 record with close battles against quality opponents. Tusculum, who Southern Miss faces on Saturday morning, sits at 3-1 after an opening weekend tournament in Fort Wayne, Ind. Melissa Mazur and Lana Vujosevic lead the Pioneers with a 3-1 record at the No. 1 pairing.Â
Olivia Hepworth and Breleigh Favre have paced the Golden Eagles with wins in two of their last four matches at the No. 4 pairing.Â
