Beach Volleyball Sweeps UT-Martin For Two Wins

MARTIN, Tenn. -Â The Golden Eagles (4-11, 0-5 CCSA) tacked on two wins with a pair of 4-1 victories over Tennessee-Martin on Wednesday afternoon. The match, which was held in Martin, Tenn., was the first-ever home game for the Skyhawks.Â

Jessica Austin and Madison Lawler remained hot at the No. 5 pairing, picking up a three-set win for the first point of the match. Breleigh Favre and Olivia Hepworth added another point for the Golden Eagles with another three set win at the No. 4 pairing. At the No. 3 pairing, Kellie Garraway and Cyan Blackdeer played their first match of the season together for Southern Miss. The duo found chemistry early en route to a three-set win that secured the Golden Eagles' third win of the season.Â
Kylie Grandy and Lindsey Legg added the fourth point with a sweep of Brooke Gyori and Hannah Phillips at the No. 1 pairing. The Skyhawks were able to snag a point over Abbey Wilson and Piper Matsumoto, winning 21-19, 21-19, at the No. 2 pairing. The win marked the first for the Golden Eagles since a 5-0 beating over Nicholls State on March 2.Â
Match 2
With the same lineup in the second match, the Golden Eagles cruised to another 4-1 victory. All four wins came via two-set sweeps. Legg and Grandy picked up another win at the No. 1 spot. The Skyhawks stole another point at the No. 2 pairing, winning in overtime again. The newfound duo of Garraway and Blackdeer remained hot with a 21-11, 21-14 win at the No. 3 pairing. Favre and Hepworth picked up another win, allowing just 20 points over the two sets. Lawler and Austin cruised to their second win of the day with a 21-13, 21-13 win at the No. 5 pairing.Â
The two wins mark the first win streak in Golden Eagle history. They will take the sand at Austin Peay tomorrow in Clarksville, Tenn. First serve is set for 2 p.m. The second part of the doubleheader will follow at 4 p.m.
