Cross Country Ready for Conference Championships

The 2019 Cross Country Championships are hosted by WKU in Bowling Green, Ky.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The women of Southern Miss Cross Country are ready to run in the Conference USA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, hosted this year by WKU.
The 5k women's race will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2. They will be running at Kereiakes Park in Bowling Green.
For Southern Miss, nine from the roster will be competing in the Championships. Freshman Katelyn Cartwright, sophomore Lina May, juniors Emma Kate Holdbrooks and Kate Mattox, as well as seniors Monika Gebarzewska, Regen McGee, Sarah McMillon, Savannah McMillon and Sandra Szpott will be competing for the Black and Gold.
This season, Cartwright has run a 19:40.59 in her first 5k race. Senior Gebarzewska ran to a new PR in the 6k and has a PR of 17:55.00 in the 5k. Holdbrooks has set new PRs in both the 5k and 6k, her new 5k time being 17:44.94. Mattox has a 5k PR of 17:38.9. May has also set new PRs in both the 5k and 6k, with a 5k PR of 17:46.37. McGee has a 5k PR of 17:45.9. Sarah McMillon has also set two new PRs this season, with a 5k PR of 18:46.36. Savannah McMillon's 5k PR is 17:52.3. Sandra Szpott has run to new PRs with her teammates in both the 5k and 6k, with her 5k PR being a 17:08.76.Â
There will be three All-Conference teams determined at the meet. The first seven finishers will be First Team, the Second Team will be made up of finishers eight through 14, and runners 15-21 will be Third Team. A Cross Country Athlete of the Year will be announced following the NCAA Championships based on nominations of coaches and the coaches' vote.Â

After the race, first and second-place teams will receive trophies, while top individual winners will also receive a plaque. The Outstanding Senior and Freshman of the Meet awards will be given to the highest placing senior and freshman at the championship. Coach of the Year will also be voted upon at the meet.
