The Golden Eagles head to South Bend for the Joe Piane Invitational.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss cross country team is headed to Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational on Friday.
Â
The team is included in the Blue Division race which will run the 5k course at 1pm. It is made up of 20 teams from 12 different conferences and across eight different NCAA Regions. Southern Miss is one of only two Conference USA teams in the entire meet, but is the lone conference member in their division. UTEP will be racing in the Gold Division.
Â
Quotables – Aaron Kindt
"So far this season, we have seen some great individual races from our group. Now as we get deeper into the year and into some of the bigger invitationals we are really focusing on our need to start putting together great team races."
"Notre Dame will be the most competitive regular-season race we've been in with this team. We have several top-25 teams and a dozen more regionally ranked teams in our race. For us to have a chance at success we will need a complete team effort this Friday."
Â
Covering Ground
By the end of this trip, the Southern Miss Cross Country program will have covered more than 2,887.8 miles this season. From Hattiesburg to Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss., to Nashville, Tenn., and now to South Bend, Ind., the Golden Eagles have added up some mileage by van and plane.
