
XC Ranked in NCAA Preseason Poll Ahead of Friday's Meet

It is the highest the team has been ranked in the NCAA Regional Preseason poll.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss Cross Country team was placed in the No. 10 spot in the NCAA Preseason Regional rankings. This is the highest ranking in team history. The ranking comes ahead of the first meet of the season on Friday at Mississippi College.
About the Meet
The Golden Eagles will travel to Clinton, Miss. to take part in the Mississippi College Opener on Friday. The start time for the women's 5k race begins at 5pm at Choctaw Trails.
Last Time Out
At last year's Mississippi College Opener, the Golden Eagles came out on top with the first place finish in the 4k race. Southern Miss (15) finished ahead of Mississippi College (68), Blue Mountain State (83) and Delta State (109). Other teams in attendance included Spring Hill, Mobile, Xavier-Louisiana, Millsap, Alcorn State and Jackson State.
Kate Mattox led the way as a freshman, winning the college race and placing second overall after covering the 4k course with a time of 14:46.95. Savannah McMillon wasn't far behind with a time of 14:49.96, and Theresa Harto ran a 15:10.04.Â
New Season, New Team
The Cross Country team has three new additions to the squad this season in Lina May, Kayelee Payton, and Sarah McMillon.Â
Next Up
After the meet at Mississippi College, the Golden Eagles will have a quick break until Sept. 15 when they travel to Nashville, Tenn. for the Commodore Classic.
