The Lady Eagles face Houston for their last non-conference matchup on Sunday at 2pm.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Lady Eagles return to their home court for a three-game homestand, starting with Houston. Tip is set for 2pm on Sunday, Dec. 30. This will be their last non-conference game and last game in December.Â
Southern Miss (8-4) is coming off their first road win of the season at Southeastern Louisiana, where they defeated the Lady Lions 59-52 in a fourth-quarter comeback win thanks to the leadership of Camille Anderson and the work in the paint by Kelsey Jones. Megan Brown also played a large role in the win, with her first game with two three-pointers made. Brown leads the Lady Eagles in points with 132. She continues to be perfect from the free-throw line; the SLU game was her eighth going 100 percent from the charity stripe. Jones leads the team in rebounds with 65, and Shonte Hailes leads in assists with 50 despite being out for the last two games due to injury. Daishai Almond and Kennedy Gavin stayed in the starting lineup for the second week and the Lady Eagles are now 2-0 when playing with this lineup.Â
Houston (5-7) comes to Hattiesburg with another win under their belt, having defeated George Mason on the road 66-56 on Dec. 21. The Cougars are led by junior Jasmyne Harris and redshirt sophomore Alyssa Okoene. Their five wins have come against George Mason, East Tennessee State, Columbia, Incarnate Word, and Georgia Tech. They have had two games in overtime and two games in double overtime this season. The Cougars are led by fifth-year head coach Ronald Hughey and associate head coach Vicky Picott.
The Matchup
This will be the first time the two teams have met since 2013. Houston leads the series 13-11, but the Lady Eagles have the home court advantage, as they are 6-4 when playing in Reed Green.
