HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Eagles (7-4) head to Hammond, La. on Thursday to take on Southeastern Louisiana (5-4) in a 6pm tipoff.
Southern Miss has their third road game of the season against Southeastern Louisiana (5-4) on the Lions' home court. The two will meet for the 10th time overall and the fifth time in Hammond on Thursday. Last time the two met was in January of 2005; the first season Joye Lee-McNelis was at the helm of the Lady Eagles Basketball program. Southern Miss defeated the Lions, 74-65 in Reed Green Coliseum. Southern Miss leads the all-time series 5-4, but the Lions hold a home court advantage with the control on the series when in University Center, 3-1.Â
The Lady Eagles are coming off a dominate win over the Lady Toppers of Blue Mountain College, where they took home a win with a score of 84-38. It was the first game without Shonte Hailes, and the first game with a brand new lineup consisting of Kennedy Gavin, Alarie Mayze, Respect Leaphart, Daishai Almond and Megan Brown. Kelsey Jones was definitely the player of the game, posting her second double-double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Almond did her job as the new point guard, coming away with eight assists on the night; a career-high as well as a season-high for the team. Three players had double-digit scoring in Jones, Allie Kennedy, and Alarie Mayze. Mayze had 14 points, and Kennedy continued her streak of having a three-pointer in the past four games, finishing with 10 points and two made threes. Megan Brown continues to lead the team in points with 116. Kelsey Jones has charged back as the leading rebounder after her double-double against the Lady Toppers with 58 overall. Shonte Hailes, despite being out with an injury, still leads the team in assists with 50. Brown and Mayze are creeping up to Hailes' 50, both in the 20s.Â
