The Lady Eagles take on the Blue Mountain College Toppers at 6pm on Tuesday night.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Eagles are set to finish off their three-game homestand by playing Blue Mountain College on Tuesday night at 6pm.Â
Southern Miss (6-4) takes on the Blue Mountain College Lady Toppers (1-7) on Tuesday for the second meeting between the two. BMC has a game on Monday night, Dec. 17, against Martin Methodist in their home facility of Tyler Gymnasium before they come to Southern Miss on Tuesday. The Lady Toppers are 0-5 on the road so far this season and are 1-2 at home. Last time the two met, the Lady Eagles overcame BMC, 96-46, in Reed Green Coliseum in December of 2017.
Daishai Almond is on fire, having led the team in scoring against SEC powerhouse Mississippi State and taking over as point guard when Shonte Hailes became injured. She was named Freshman of the Week by Conference USA on Monday, Dec. 17, for her performance against both Mississippi State and Alcorn State. Respect Leaphart is also packing heat, as she has shown out the last two games from the three-point line. She had the first points of the game against Mississippi State, draining a three. Shonte Hailes was injured in the tussle with No. 5 Mississippi State, and it is uncertain when she will return.
The Head Coach of the Lady Toppers, Lavon Driskell, is a two-time Southern Miss grad, earning both his bachelor's and master's from USM. He has been at the helm of the Blue Mountain women's team for 17 years. His wife, Chris, has served as the assistant coach of the Lady Toppers alongside him for those 17 years.
