Southern Miss Set to Host C-USA Opponent Charlotte on Friday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss soccer team (8-3-0, 2-2-0 C-USA) will host C-USA opponent Charlotte (8-3-0, 4-0-0 C-USA) on Friday, October 5 at 4:00 p.m. (CT) at the Southern Miss Track & Field and Soccer Complex.

The last time out
The Golden Eagles last took the pitch on Sunday, September 30 against Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla. and fell to the Owls by a final score of 2-0.

The match proved to be a tough defensive battle between both teams the entire first half of play as the half ended with both teams knotted 0-0.

Goals at the 46:03 mark and the 61:24 mark in the match eventually propelled Florida Atlantic to victory.

Southern Miss ended the match with a total of seven saves, with five coming from starting goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Sarah Preston recorded one save after entering the match in place of Mindnich at the 63:28 mark and Southern Miss was credited with one save as a team.

Charlotte leads the series with an all-time record of 8-1-2. The Golden Eagles are 1-2-2 when facing the 49ers in Hattiesburg, 0-5-0 on the road in Charlotte and 0-1-0 in neutral site contests.

The last time that the Golden Eagles and the 49ers met on the pitch was October 14, 2017 in Hattiesburg, Miss. The match resulted in a 1-1 draw in double overtime.

The opponent
Southern Miss will face yet another C-USA opponent with an undefeated record in conference play when they take the pitch against Charlotte on Friday.

The 49ers are led by 10^th year head coach and Charlotte alum John Cullen. Since the London, England native returned to his alma mater in 2009, the 49ers have posted a record of 105-72-17, earned an automatic NCAA Tournament berth in 2016, and have appeared in the C-USA Championship final back-to-back seasons (2016 and 2017). Charlotte won the C-USA Championship in 2016.

Charlotte is currently tied with Florida Atlantic as C-USA's top ranked team. The 49ers lead C-USA with 14 assists and an average of 3.500 assists per game over the course of four games played.
