Southern Miss Soccer to Wrap Up Regular Season at Louisiana Tech

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss soccer team (11-4-1, 5-3-1 C-USA) will wrap up their regular season against Louisiana Tech (11-5-2, 4-3-1 C-USA) on Friday, October 26 in Ruston, La. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. (CT) and will be played at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

The last time out
The Golden Eagles last took the pitch on Sunday at BBVA Field in Birmingham, Ala. against the UAB Blazers. Southern Miss fell to UAB by a final score of 2-0.

A goal by UAB's Regan Kommor at the 8:51 mark in the first half gave the Blazers an early 1-0 lead. UAB tacked on another goal early in the second half when Caroline Kehrer located the back of the net at the 48:31 mark.

Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles outshot the Blazers 11-8 in the contest.

After the match, the Golden Eagles learned that they had officially clinched a spot in the 2018 C-USA Women's Soccer Tournament. 2018 marks the first season that Southern Miss has received a bid to the tournament since 2007.

The tournament will take place October 31-November 4 in Norfolk, Va. and will be hosted by Old Dominion.

Louisiana Tech leads the all-time series with an overall record of 5-1-2. Southern Miss is 1-1-2 when facing the Lady Techsters at home and 0-4-0 in road contests.

The last meeting between the Golden Eagles and the Lady Techsters occurred on October 27, 2017 at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex in Ruston, La. The Lady Techsters won the contest 3-1.

Kailee Hervey scored two goals early in the contest, providing the Lady Techsters with a 2-0 lead. Louisiana Tech picked up their third goal of the contest after converting a penalty kick in the second half.

Louisiana Tech is led by 18^th year head coach, Kevin Sherry. Under Sherry's direction, the Lady Techsters have qualified for the C-USA Women's Soccer Tournament five consecutive seasons.

In 2017, Louisiana Tech saw one of their best seasons in program history after finishing the season with an overall record of 14-3-5 and a 6-1-3 record in C-USA play. The three losses marked the fewest in school history in a single season.

The last time that the Lady Techsters took the pitch, they ended their match against Marshall in Huntington, W.Va. on Sunday in a 2-2 draw in double overtime.

Defenders Alexandra LeBlanc and Nomvula Kgoale netted goals for Louisiana Tech at 7:57 and 63:26 marks of the match respectively.

Midfielder/forward Gabby Powers and forward Farah Abu-Tayeh scored Marshall's two goals of the match at the 44:03 and 59:08 marks.

What's on the line
Southern Miss will be playing for a program best, 12-win season when they face Louisiana Tech on Friday.

The Golden Eagles will also be seeking their sixth conference win which would match the most conference wins in Southern Miss history.

The Southern Miss defense will look to extend their single-season shutout record to 10 games and sophomore goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich will be chasing the Southern Miss single-season record of six individual shutouts.

No Southern Miss goalkeeper has recorded six shutouts in a single season since Anna Synder did so in 2003. Mindnich has registered a total of five shutouts this season and is tied for the second most in school history.
