BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southern Miss Golden Eagles (11-4-1, 5-3-1 C-USA) were defeated by the UAB Blazers (9-6-1, 6-3-0 C-USA), 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at BBVA Field in Birmingham, Ala.

A goal by UAB midfielder Regan Kommor at the 8:51 mark in the first half gave the Blazers an early 1-0. Kommor's first half goal was her first of the 2018 season.

The first half concluded with the Blazers leading 1-0.

The second half of play began much like the first as UAB netted a goal early in the half, extending their lead 2-0. Senior forward Caroline Kehrer scored the second goal of the match for the Blazers after finishing a cross in the penalty area. Kommor and sophomore forward Kamilah Mustafa were credited with the double assist on the goal by Kehrer.

Despite the loss, Southern Miss finished the match with an 11-8 shot advantage over UAB.

The brightest spot of the day for the Golden Eagles came after the match, after finding out that they officially clinched a spot in the C-USA Women's Soccer Tournament for the first time since 2007. Charlotte's 2-0 loss to UTSA, combined with Marshall's 2-2 draw against Louisiana Tech sealed the deal on a postseason bid for the Golden Eagles.

The 2018 C-USA Women's Soccer Tournament will take place in Norfolk, Va. from October 31-November 4. The tournament will be hosted by Old Dominion and sponsored by the Air Force Reserve.

Southern Miss will now return to Hattiesburg and prepare for their final match of the regular season. The Golden Eagles will wrap up their regular season on Friday, October 26 against Louisiana Tech. The Golden Eagles and the Lady Techsters will kick-off at 7:00 p.m. (CT). The match will be played at The Lady Techster Soccer Complex in Ruston, La.
