Southern Miss to Face UTEP in Final Home Match of 2018

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss soccer team (10-3-0, 4-2-0 C-USA) will face the UTEP Miners (6-8-1, 1-5-0 C-USA) in their final home match of the 2018 season on Sunday, October 14 at 12:00 p.m. (CT) at the Southern Miss Track & Field and Soccer Complex.
The last time out
In their most recent match, Southern Miss defeated UTSA (5-7-1, 1-4-1 C-USA) by a final score of 1-0, posting their eighth shutout of the season.
It took an entire team effort for the Golden Eagles to come away with a victory. The play of the Southern Miss backline that dictated the match by controlling the ball, combined with the stellar goalkeeping of Kendell Mindnich, helped preserve the shutout for the Golden Eagles.
On the offensive side, it was junior midfielder Monica Maldonado that netted the lone goal of the contest which proved to be all that the Golden Eagles would need. Maldonado was assisted by sophomore midfielder Jenny Caracheo who threaded the needle perfectly with a precise pass, placing the ball on the foot of Maldonado in stride.
