
Southern Miss Caps off Senior Day With 1-1 Draw in Double Overtime

Six Southern Miss seniors took the pitch for the final time in the Hub City
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss soccer team (10-3-1, 4-2-1 C-USA) capped off Senior Day with a 1-1 draw in double overtime against UTEP (6-8-2, 1-5-1 C-USA) on Sunday afternoon at the Southern Miss Track & Field and Soccer Complex in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Both teams battled for the entire 120 minutes of the match in what was a physical battle between the two.

The match remained scoreless until the 46:13 mark in the second half when Southern Miss sophomore midfielder Miah Zuazua drilled a penalty kick to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 advantage over the Miners.

The Golden Eagles' lead was short lived as the Miners were awarded a penalty kick just 26 seconds after Zuazua put the Golden Eagles on top. UTEP's Carleigh Simmons took the penalty kick for the Miners and was able to find the back to the net, tying the match 1-1 at the 46:39 mark.

Southern Miss out shot the Miners 20-11 and finished the match with an 11-4 corner kicks advantage.

Southern Miss goalkeeper Kendell Mindnich recorded a total of six saves in the contest, finishing the match just one shy of her season high.

The Golden Eagles' senior class took the home pitch in the Hub City for the final time in their Southern Miss careers on Sunday. The 2018 class will leave a legacy that will not be forgotten as they have led Southern Miss to one of its most successful seasons in the history of the program.

The 2018 class also helped lead the program to its first winning season since 2003 after finishing the 2016 season with an overall record of 8-7-2.

Southern Miss will now prepare for their match against C-USA opponent Middle Tennessee (9-4-1, 4-2-1 C-USA) on Friday, October 19. The match will be played at Dean Hayes Stadium in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (CT).
