Cross Country Finishes Third at the Blazer Classic

The Southern Miss cross country team came in third place at UAB.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– The Southern Miss cross country team had a change of plans with hurricane Michael heading toward Florida, but made the best of it at UAB's Blazer Classic, coming in third.
Overall, the team had a total time of 1:50:29.50 with an average time of 22:05.90.
The Runners
The junior transfer, Sandra Szpott, finished first of the Golden Eagles squad but placed 12th overall in the race with a time of 21:37.72. Kate Mattox and Monika Gebarzewska ran together, finishing at 17thand 18th. Mattox crossed the finish line at 22:08.62 and Gebarzewska at 22:09.11. Coming in 20th was Regen McGee with a time of 22:12.40. Rounding out the top-25 finishers was freshman Lina May with a time of 22:21.31. All the Southern Miss runners finished in the top-65 out of 142.
Placing
The Golden Eagles came in third place overall with 83 points. There were 19 teams, with Tennessee taking first and Alabama coming in second. Southern Miss finished above Florida State, Samford, Florida A&M, UAB, Troy, Tennessee Tech, South Alabama, Memphis, North Alabama, Mercer, Shorter, Nicholls State, Alabama State, Birmingham-Southern, Marion Military Institute and Tuskegee.
