NASHVILLE - The Southern Miss soccer team completed their weekend road trip with a 2-0 loss at Vanderbilt University Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles allowed an early goal to Vandy in the 15th minute, giving the Commodores a lead they would not relinquish. Nicole Adams finished a cross from Kate Goldin with a header for the games first goal.
Southern Miss held Vandy scoreless until the final minutes of the game despite playing a player down for the final 35 minutes after Amy Davis was given a red card.
The `Dores added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute off the foot of Kate Goldin to complete the games scoring.
"We found out a lot about our team today. Playing a man down for the last 35 minutes was challenging, but we still found a way to create chances, head coach Scott Ebke said. "I was proud of the way we competed today, but we still need to find the back of the net and be more dynamic in our attack." Vandy outshot Southern Miss 15-5 on the day including a nine-to-one advantage with shots on goal.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Southeastern Louisiana, a make up game from the season opener that was postponed due to a wet field. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
