HAMMOND, La. - The Southern Miss soccer team traveled to Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday evening for a rare midweek game to make up the season opener, which was postponed due to a wet field, and came a way with a two overtime tie.
The Golden Eagles (1-3-1) and Southeastern (4-0-1) played a scoreless first half with the Eagles outshooting SELA five-to-one with three of their shots on goal.
The Lions struck for the games first goal in the 48th minute as Lauren Stillians connected for her first goal of the season for an early 1-0 lead.
Southern Miss rallied to tie the game 20 minutes later as Jordan Wagner connected for her second goal of the season on an assist by Natasha Lombardo.
The two teams played the remainder of regulation and both overtime periods scoreless to force the tie.
"Tonight was a hard fought game by both sides," head coach Scott Ebke said. "We did a good job to tie the game and we put ourselves in position to win the game. We will continue working on being more dynamic in our attack to create chances as this season progresses."
Southern Miss returns to action Sunday as they host Jackson State at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
