Soccer Gets Back to .500, Defeats Southeastern Louisiana, 2-1

The Southern Miss Lady Eagle soccer team got back to .500 on the season today, defeating Southeastern La., 2-1.
With the win, Southern Miss is now 4-4-1 on the season. Southeastern La., falls to 6-3-1.
"Overall, it was a good team performance," Head Coach Gail Macklin said. "I've said all along that we needed to get goals from different positions, and we got one from a defender and midfielder today. I'm very pleased about the weekend."
The Lady Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the opening two minutes, as Ashley Hutton netted her first career goal off a free kick, thanks to an assist from Kim Turner.
Southern Miss would take that 1-0 lead into halftime, out-shooting the Lady Lions 5-2 in the opening period.
The Lady Eagles took a 2-0 advantage at the 65:04 mark in the second half, as Kalee Silvosky netted her second goal of the season off an assist from Sarah McFadden.
Southeastern La.'s Chelsea Kling scored an unassisted goal at the 71:01 mark to make the final score.
The Lady Eagles finished the match with a 10-6 advantage in shots. McFadden led Southern Miss with three shots, while Hutton had two. Holly Cox finished with one save in goal.
Southern Miss returns to action next weekend, as it opens Conference USA play. The Lady Eagles will play at Houston, Friday Sept. 29 at 7 p.m., before facing Rice on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.
