Thirteen Golden Eagles Named to Sun Belt Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference Teams

NEW ORLEANS – Southern Miss earned 13 total selections to the All-Sun Belt Conference Track & Field Teams with six men and seven women earning postseason laurels as announced by the league today.
Three Golden Eagles earned first team honors after taking the top podium spot in their event. Tyler Nichols, Emme Bates and Cadence Lapp all represent Southern Miss on the first team with Nichols winning both the men's high jump and long jump; Bates winning the women's 800 meters and Lapp taking home the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
On the second team, Conner Mozee and De'Aundre Ward represent the Southern Miss men's team while five women earned second team honors with Valencia Watson, Addison McLaurin, Jaellene Burgess, Kennedi Sanders and Alana Simon all on the second team.
Nikoby Johnson, Javel Fullerton and Valentino Rudolph finish off the group as a trio of third team selections.
Nichols earned two first place finishes with a conference record, championship record, facility record and personal best long jump of 26-10½ (8.19m) to move to No. 2 in the outdoor performance list while also winning the high jump with a personal best 7-1¾ (2.18m) to move to No. 13 on the overall Division I list.
Bates won the 800 with a time of 2:06.88 to set a new facility record while Lapp won gold in the women's steeplechase with a time of 10:35.71 to set a new personal best.
Conner Mozee placed second in the men's discus throw with personal best mark of 184-11 (45.38m) while De'Aundre Ward also collected a silver medal in the men's long jump, setting a new season best and also besting the previous conference and facility records with a 26-8½ (8.14m) mark.
Valencia Watson, Addison McLaurin, Jaellene Burgess and Kennedi Sanders all earned second team honors for their second-place finish in the women's 4x400-meter relay. The Golden Eagle 4x400 team ran a season-best 3:36.99 to break the facility record and move to No. 58 in the Division I performance list. Sanders also took third in the women's 400 meters with a season-best 53.07 seconds.
Alana Simon rounds out the group of second teamers with a silver medal finish in the women's high jump, reaching 5-9¾ (1.77m) to set a personal best and take the 69th spot in the overall Division I outdoor lists.
Nikoby Johnson earned third team selection with a third-place finish in the men's 100 meters, running a wind-aided 10.31 (+2.0m/s) seconds. Javel Fullerton also finished third in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.88 seconds. Valentino Rudolph set a new personal best with a 20.62 second finish in the men's 200 meters as well.
