Beach Volleyball Travels West for Sun Devil Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (2-6, 0-0 Sun Belt) travels to Tempe, Ariz., to play four duals in Arizona State's Sun Devil Classic beginning on Friday, March 6. The Golden Eagles will play three duals on Friday, beginning with a 10 a.m. CT (9 a.m. MT) tilt against Stephen F. Austin. Southern Miss will also take on Nebraska, No. 19 Arizona and close the tournament with a dual against the hosts, No. 8 Arizona State.
No live stream or video will be available for the weekend; however, Arizona State will provide live statistics for fans interested in keeping up with the action.

Southern Miss' portion of the weekend begins on Friday at 9 a.m. MST against the Stephen F. Austin Sandyjacks. SFA opened the season last weekend at home with wins over Nicholls and McKendree (Texas) and a 3-2 loss to New Orleans.
The Sandyjack program is under the direction of first-year head coach Gretchen Hand. Hand took over the reins in Nacogdoches this offseason after a court order reinstated the SFA program following the school's decision to drop beach volleyball sponsorship.
SFA posted its greatest season in school history last year, finishing 22-14 overall and 5-4 in Southland Conference action. The 'Jacks fell to San Jose State in the Southland quarterfinals to end the campaign.
Southern Miss is 1-2 all-time against Stephen F. Austin, last meeting the 'Jacks on April 11, 2025, in Baton Rouge, La. Southern Miss' last win over SFA came on March 15, 2024, in Youngsville, La.

Nebraska will play nine duals in their trip to Arizona, beginning with three on March 5 in Avondale, Ariz., then four duals over March 6-7 in Tempe, and concluding with two duals on March 8 in Mesa. The Huskers leave the state of Nebraska for the first time this season after opening 4-0 at their home court.
The Huskers are led by fourth-year head coach Jaylen Reyes, who sports a 57-19 ledger leading the program. Nebraska competes as an independent beach program and has since its first season in 2013.
Nebraska finished the 2025 season on a 22-game win streak to post its program record of 22-3. The meeting will be the first between Southern Miss and Nebraska.

Southern Miss closes its first day in Tempe against No. 19 Arizona. The Wildcats are 6-2 after back-to-back 3-1 finishes in their first two tournaments. Last weekend, Arizona defeated UTEP, Oregon and No. 19 Georgia State with the lone loss to rival and ninth-ranked Arizona State on their home sand.
Head coach Steve Walker is in his 11th season leading Arizona. The Wildcats posted an 18-12 record last year and fell out of the Big 12 Tournament in two games.
This will be Southern Miss' first meeting against Arizona since 2023. Arizona leads the all-time series 2-0 with both wins coming at their home court in Tucson.
