Â
STORMING THE BAY CENTER
- Historically, Southern Miss hasn't had much luck at the Pensacola Bay Center when it comes to the Sun Belt Tournament. The Golden Eagles won their first game last year versus Coastal Carolina, but are 1-3 overall
- However, Southern Miss is 2-0 at the Pensacola Bay Center this season after winning the Pensacola Invitational back in late November. Tylik Weeks was named tournament MVP, while Djahi Binet and Isaac Taveras picked up All-Tournament honors
- In game one against North Florida, the Golden Eagles erased a 13-point deficit en route to a 92-83 win. Weeks scored 37 points after coming off the bench. He had 15 field goals, six rebounds, and two assists. Three others scored in double figures -- Dylan Brumfield (13), Taveras (13), Binet (12)
- The Golden Eagles then cruised to a 70-60 win over UT Martin in the championship game. Southern Miss led by as many as 21 in the first half before the Skyhawks trimmed down the lead. Weeks and Binet both had 14 points, with Weeks grabbing seven rebounds. He averaged 25.5 points and 6.5 rebounds over the weekend
- The tournament title was the first for Southern Miss since winning the 2022 Cancun Challenge. The Golden Eagles went on to win the Sun Belt regular season later that year
Â
FIRST TEAM BULLY
- Junior forward Tylik Weeks was named First Team All-Sun Belt by the league on Monday afternoon
- Weeks averaged 18.8 points per game on the season and 20.1 points per game in league play. Both ranked him second in the Sun Belt behind Chaze Harris (South Alabama), who was named the Sun Belt Player of the Year. Weeks averaged 5.8 rebounds per game in 30 contests and averaged 5.3 rebounds in 18 conference games
- Weeks scored in double figures 28 times, including a stretch of 21-straight games. That run is the second-longest stretch by a Golden Eagle in program history, as Wendell Ladner had a stretch of 22-straight games (Dec. 7, 1968 - Dec. 1, 1969). He produced 14 20-point games and had a pair of 30-point games
