Beach Volleyball Heads to Macon for Sun Belt Mid-Season Tournament

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss beach volleyball looks to pick up key wins in Sun Belt Conference play this weekend at Bear Beach in Macon, Ga. The Golden Eagles (7-14, 0-0 Sun Belt) will play four of its fellow Sun Belt Conference members this weekend with postseason seeding on the line.
Live stats will be available for each dual on the weekend for fans to follow along. Mercer serves as one of two host sites for the Sun Belt's mid-season event, which helps decide seeding for the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Beach Volleyball Championship. Southern Miss will play all four of its duals at Mercer's Bear Beach while other programs will play between Mercer and Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga.

Southern Miss opens the weekend on Friday, March 27, at 8 a.m. CT against College of Charleston (5-13, 0-0 Sun Belt). The Cougars hosted the South Carolina Derby last weekend on campus, finishing with a win over Erskine (5-0) and losses to Coastal Carolina (4-1), Tampa (5-0) and UNCW (4-1). CofC finished last season 6-21 and is under the direction of fourth-year head coach Damian Elder.
Friday's action concludes with a 10:15 a.m. CT (11:15 a.m. ET) dual against host Mercer (4-12, 0-0 Sun Belt). The Bears hosted the Bear Beach Bash two weeks ago where they finished 2-2 with wins over Huntington and Wesleyan and losses to Palm Beach Atlantic and UT Martin. Mercer took last weekend off ahead of serving as one of two host sites for the Sun Belt Mid-Season Tournament.
Mercer finished last season 24-13 overall and 3-3 in Sun Belt play before falling out of the tournament at the hands of the Golden Eagles. Head coach Josh Marsh is in his seventh season leading the Bears and sports a 72-123 overall ledger in Macon.
Southern Miss' Saturday opens at 8 a.m. CT (9 a.m. ET) against Coastal Carolina (11-10, 1-0 Sun Belt). The Chanticleers are fresh off a 4-1 weekend in Charleston, S.C., at the South Carolina Derby, taking wins over College of Charleston, UNCW and Erskine and a loss to Tampa.
Coastal head coach Collin Wilson is in his third season in Conway and holes a 59-34 record. Both his prior seasons leading the Chanticleers saw CCU win 20 games each season.
The weekend comes to a close with a 12:30 p.m. CT (1:30 p.m. ET) meeting against UNCW (7-13, 1-1 Sun Belt). The Seahawks posted a 3-1 record at College of Charleston's South Carolina Derby last week with a lone loss to Coastal Carolina.
Saturday's meeting is the first between the two teams since UNCW knocked Southern Miss out of the Sun Belt Championship last season. UNCW went on to defeat Coastal Carolina in the semifinal dual before falling 3-1 to Georgia State in the Sun Belt Championship game.
