Javier Elevates Men’s Golf to Tie Program Record with Podium Finish at the Seminole Intercollegiate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sophomore Matthew Javier propelled Southern Miss to its third straight second-place finish of the season with a 4-under 212 at the Seminole Intercollegiate, tying the record set in the 2005-6 season under Steve Johnson of six top-three finishes in a single season, in a field of 21 teams.
Javier cemented his third-place finish, recording a 1-over 73, trailing only Florida State's Tyler Weaver and Western Kentucky's Anders Larson, who jumped three places with a 6-under 66 to snag the individual title. The sophomore finished as one of twenty with an eagle and tied for sixth in birdies (11), going red on par 4-holes with an average of 3.97, just behind teammate Supakorn Amornchaichan with a 3.93 holding the top second and third positions, and going low on par 5-holes at 4-under, averaging 4.67 to pick up his third top five finish of the season.
Walker Wise ties the lowest round of his career with a 3-under 69, elevating the Mississippi native 44 spots playing as an individual in a tie for 58th. Wise picked up six birdies through his last 18 holes, four of which came from the front nine, placing the redshirt-junior tied for 16th in birdies (8).
Southern Miss sits firmly in second place, behind an 8-under Florida State, with an 11-over 875 and Stetson, the victors of the Dorado Beach Collegiate, trailing with a 17-over 881 in third place. The Golden Eagles were the second most productive team in the 21-team field on par 4-holes with a 4.13 average while tallying up 169 pars, the third most.
Amornchaichan replicated his round two performance with another even 72, tying Florida State's Carson Brewer for fifth place. The junior picked up three rounds of par or better, adding to his five going into the weekend.
Jake Moffitt and Benjamin Fernandez join Javier in posting a 1-over 73, with Moffitt finishing tied for 30th and Fernandez improving 29 spots to be tied for 45th. Tommy Latter finished the Seminole Intercollegiate tied for 58th, alongside Wise, with a 6-over 78 and 31 pars through 54 holes.
